OTTOMAN HUNTING AXE
OTTOMAN EMPIRE c. 1750
A fine steel-mounted axe for fighting or hunting with a reinforced leather-covered wooden shaft. The reinforcements have been made in conical steel and the shaft has a steel strap screwed on the wood connecting the both shaft ends. The blade bears a maker’s mark ‘Work of Ali’. Similar markings in teardrop style can be found on yataghan blades with solid silver scabbards from 1750-1800. A high-quality object in fine condition.
