FINNISH WWII CROSS OF LIBERTY 4TH CLASS 1939 WITH BLACK RIBBON

DESCRIPTION
An original Finnish WWII medal, the 4th class Cross of Liberty (Vapaudenristi) with swords and black ribbon, the so-called Mourning Cross (Sururisti), awarded to next of kin in the Finnish Winter War (1939-1940). The medal is of black-lacquered iron with silvered details attached with the black fabric ribbon. The medal is designed by the famous Akseli Gallen-Kallela. This example is one of 23 157 crosses awarded.

CONDITION
The medal is in good vintage condition with some signs of wear and loss of black lacquer paint.
