DESCRIPTION
An interesting antique flyssa knife manufactured in the late 18th century or early 19th century Algeria, during the period when the Barbary Coast was part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire. The brass-decorated steel handle is of a typical flyssa style with the pommel shaped as a bird head. The single-edged steel blade is engraved with geometrical decorations. The extraordinary Ottoman style wooden scabbard is covered with black leather and large silver mounts embossed with vines and floral motifs.
CONDITION
The knife is in good antique condition with small signs of age and wear. A small decorative panel appears to be missing from the top of the handle. The knife fits tightly and well in its scabbard.
