INDIAN ELEPHANT GOAD ANKUS WITH WOODEN HANDLE

DESCRIPTION
An antique Indian elephant goad, known as an ankus or ankusha, manufactured probably in the 19th century in India for use by mahouts, the traditional handlers of working elephants. The ankus features a simple hand-forged steel hook riveted to a red-painted wooden shaft. The opposite end of the shaft is finished with a rounded, ball-shaped terminal painted yellow.

The item is in good antique condition with small signs of age and wear.
