1250,00 €
DESCRIPTION
An antique English dirk dagger manufactured for the American market by the master John Lingard, approximately in the 1850s or 1860s Sheffield, England. The nickelsilver handle, decorated with American eagle and the text: “LIBERTY AND UNION” is finished with beautiful grip scales made of mother-of-pearl. The double-edged steel blade is signed by the maker: “J LINGARD PEA CROFT SHEFFIELD” and etched with a motto: “NEVER DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON NOR SHEATH ME WITHOUT HONOR”. The dagger comes with a nickelsilver-mounted leather sheath, decorated with a flower on the frontside which seems to be original, although the upper mount has not been accustomed for the crossguard.
CONDITION
The dagger is in good antique condition with minor signs of wear and light rust and patination on the blade. The blade etching is somewhat fainted. The knife fits well in its sheath.
