PERSIAN JAMBIYA DAGGER

JAMBIYA DAGGER

A traditional antique ‘black’ jambiya with the handle made of water buffalo horn. The blade is made of wootz steel in fantastic armour-piercing form with a rigid central rib. The blade has fine-conditioned gold koftgari work with floral decorations and what seems to be the date 1795 (1210). The wooden scabbard is covered with slightly-tooled leather and fitted with silver mount embossed with figural scenes of mythological beasts and kings. The dagger is in nice antique condition. The bone handle is with a crack on one side.
