An antique Sinhalese piha kaetta knife, probably manufactured in the late 18th century in the Kingdom of Kandy, Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). The black handle is skillfully carved and fitted with silver mounts and brass rivets. The silvered brass bolster is engraved with rich floral motifs forming a shape of a peacock tail. The thick steel blade is clip-pointed and single-fullered. The spine, fuller and ricasso are richly decorated with engraved floral motifs highlighted with silver inlay or plating. The knife comes without a scabbard. The knife originates from a Swedish private collection and still bears an old collection tag on the blade.
